“I got bald because of my chemotherapy. I started my treatment in January 2020. It was late last year when we found out I have a lump under my skin. The doctor decided to do the surgery as soon as possible. December 9, I had my first surgery. I had a mastectomy; they removed my right breast. It was only then when the doctor realized that the cyst I had is on stage 3. January this year, I started with my chemo. I got bald. There were still four cysts left inside my body. And then my hair started to grow again. Next month, my boss and my doctor are planning to send me overseas for further treatment(radiation). My employer didn’t allow me to go back home because they wanted me to undergo treatment here in Cayman, because of a more advanced healthcare system. They fear that when I get my treatment back home, my life would be in a lot more risk. It’s hard to undergo treatment because it’s very expensive but still the treatment is continuous because of support from my employer and friends. I continued to work even though I am under treatment. I am very optimistic in life, living a normal life even with cancer. This cancer won’t beat me. I will beat this cancer. I get my biggest support from my friends and family. I think of it in a way that I am just receiving treatment and that I will get better everyday. I pray a lot and I feel stronger every time I pray.”
